Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a transformative psychotherapy model that helps individuals explore and heal the different “parts” or sub-personalities within themselves. Developed by Dr Richard Schwartz, IFS views the mind as naturally multiple, with distinct parts that hold emotions, beliefs, and memories.
Instead of seeing inner conflict as a problem, IFS recognises that these parts each have positive intentions, even if their behaviours or feelings sometimes cause distress or confusion. Some parts may be protectors, managing pain or preventing harm, while others may be wounded or vulnerable.
