Yvette is an experienced family therapist with expertise working somatically with trauma. For the last decade, she worked as a family therapist at IMH — a public psychiatric hospital in Singapore — providing psychotherapy to individuals, couples and families. She also provides individual and group clinical supervision and consultation to social workers and psychotherapists. Yvette integrates Somatic Experiencing, attachment theories and narrative approaches in her work.

Yvette has undertaken a life–long pursuit of learning and making meaningful connections in order to have a positive impact on people’s lives. She obtained a degree in social work from NUS and Masters in Counselling from Curtin University (Perth, WA). Yvette also has a Diploma in Systems Approach to Family & Marital Therapy.

In Singapore, she has worked for the Singapore Council of Social Service assisting with the allocation of Community Chest funds to the Children, Youth & Family Services and was involved with rolling out the Family Service Centre (FSC) model nationally. She worked in two Family Service Centres providing counselling and case management and worked with Beyond Parental Control (BPC) youths and their families.

For seven years, Yvette was a school counsellor in Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) working with a range of emotional and family issues presented by older youths and she conducted training sessions for students and lecturers.

While living in Perth, Western Australia for five years, she worked as a Senior Social Worker with the Department of Health (DOH) and as a Counsellor at Centrecare. At DOH, Yvette ran Circle of Security ® parenting workshops, conducted autism assessments and assisted stay–home mums struggling with parenting children with developmental delay. At Centrecare, Yvette specialised in Family and Domestic Violence, providing individual counselling and ran support groups to both victims and perpetrators of violence. Through her work, Yvette witnessed many men taking responsibility for their violence and going on to live fulfilling and respectful relationships once they learnt to regulate their emotions more effectively.

During her 10 years of practice at IMH she saw individuals, couples and families who have been impacted by past stressful or traumatic experiences of abuse in family or marriage, bullying, unexpected trauma, and those struggling with mental health conditions. Yvette also provided clinical supervision. Continuing with her passion for OCD work developed in IMH as a Family Therapist, Yvette continues to co–facilitate monthly online OCD Caregiver support groups organized by the OCD Network.

From 2012, Yvette began learning Somatic Experiencing ® (SE) — a body–based method of resolving trauma. This approach has helped her clients move away from self–judgement to self–acceptance, feel more in charge of their lives, and to form better relationships. she became a SE Practitioner (SEP) in 2015 and has since assisted SE training conducted in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore and other countries.

Yvette is also currently training to become a Biodynamic Cranial Sacral Therapist.

Having accumulated practice skills and knowledge from the varied work and training settings, Yvette looks forward to giving back by supporting professionals who are working with vulnerable clients as she believes attending to the self of the therapist is core to becoming a great therapist and healer.
