Yvette is an experienced therapist with expertise working somatically with trauma. She integrates Somatic Experiencing, attachment theories and narrative approaches in her work. She has undertaken a life–long pursuit of learning and making meaningful connections in order to have a positive impact on people’s lives.
From 2012, Yvette began learning Somatic Experiencing ® (SE) — a body–based method of resolving trauma. This approach has helped her clients move away from self–judgement to self–acceptance, feel more in charge of their lives, and to form better relationships. she became a SE Practitioner (SEP) in 2015 and has since assisted SE training conducted in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore and other countries.
For the last decade, she worked as a family therapist at IMH — a public psychiatric hospital in Singapore — providing psychotherapy to individuals, couples and families. She supported individuals, couples and families who have been impacted on by past stressful or traumatic experiences of abuse in family or marriage, bullying, unexpected trauma, and those struggling with mental health conditions. She also provides individual and group clinical supervision and consultation to social workers and psychotherapists. Passionate for OCD work, Yvette continues to co–facilitate monthly online OCD Caregiver support groups organized by the OCD Network.
Yvette was previously a school counsellor in Nanyang Polytechnic working with a range of emotional and family issues presented by older youths and she conducted training sessions for students and lecturers. She has also worked in two Family Service Centres providing counselling and case management and supported families with youths going through the Beyond Parental Control (BPC) process.
While in Perth for five years, Yvette ran Circle of Security ® parenting workshops, conducted autism assessments and assisted stay–home mums struggling with parenting children with developmental delay. She specialised in Family and Domestic Violence, providing individual counselling and ran support groups to both victims and perpetrators of violence. Through her work, Yvette witnessed many men taking responsibility for their violence and going on to live fulfilling and respectful relationships once they learnt to regulate their emotions more effectively.
